SFRAs are an assessment of the risk of flooding on a county or local area level and are prepared as part of the Strategic Environmental Assessment which Local Authorities are required to carry out during the framing of Development Plans. Their purpose is to ascertain the risk of flooding in the subject area and to allow the Local Authority to be fully informed of flood risk while making strategic land-use decisions. SFRAs are carried out in accordance with the document “The Planning System and Flood Risk Management” as published by the Office of Public Works.
